Camino de Santiago Day 20
Day 20: I woke up at 6:45 AM and had breakfast at 7:30 AM. Breakfast at the Parador Hotel was great as there was a large selection of items on the buffet as well as several hot plates. To make further use of the hotel, I relaxed in the room after breakfast for about 2 hours before starting my hike. I worked on my computer as well as updated the blog (made use of the great internet). My next accommodation was scheduled for a dorm situation in a small village so there was really no need to rush out of the luxurious environment of the Parador Hotel. I left the Parador at 10:40 AM, walking out through the Leon suburbs. It was sidewalks and streets for many miles until the camino split into two different routes. I took the alternative route which took me toward Villar de Mazarif, the village where we booked my hostel. On the way, I stopped at La Pintxoteca Domus Oncina in Oncina de Valdoncina for a ham and cheese sandwich. After leaving that town, the next part of the trail was like African savannah, dry with bushes everywhere and some trees scattered about. After a while I came into Chozas de Abajo, a small town, and stopped at Bar El Camino for an electrolyte drink. I left within 15 minutes and walked along country road the last three miles to Villlar de Mazarif. I checked in at Albergue Tio Pepe and switched to a private room (from my scheduled dorm). I ate a pilgrim’s meal at the hostel (zucchini cream, chicken skewers and French fries, ice cream, and red wine). After dinner I took a stroll around town as the sun was going down. Following my walk I went back, relaxed, and went to sleep.
Distance hiked: 14 miles
