Camino de Santiago Day 10
Day 10: We woke up at Pension San Lorenzo at 7:45 and had
breakfast in the hotel. A nice Spanish man prepared a meal for the two of us
and we ate it at the kitchen table. After breakfast, we stuffed everything back
in our packs and departed out the back of the city along the camino. Several
miles into the hike we passed through the town of Azofra. It was the first day
we’ve hiked in the high 70’s/low 80’s and it felt amazing. It almost felt like
we needed jackets after being in the 100s for so long. After Azofra there was a
6 mile stretch to the next town of Ciruena. There wasn’t much to the town and Tatiana
took the bus from Ciruena to Santo Domingo de la Calzada. After Tatiana left, I did the final 3.7 miles and we
ended at Santo Domingo de la Calzada at the Parado Bernadino hotel, an old convent.
The accommodations were the best so far, even luxurious. We arrived there fairly early so we had a great lunch at Brassiere Gran Franchese. We then
walked around the city and later rested at the hotel. Several hours later, we got
up and had a drink at La Botanica before eating dinner at the hotel’s sister
property, Parado Santa Domingo (a 5 star hotel). The dinner was fantastic!
Following dinner we stopped by El Capote, a local brewery, before retiring for the night at
around midnight.
Distance hiked: 13 miles
