Camino de Santiago Day 14

Day 14: We woke up at 6 AM in the AC Marriott, I packed, and then we said goodbye. Tatiana would later catch a bus to Madrid to fly out and I had a 25 mile birthday hike awaiting me. I walked out of Burgos through several city parks, streets, and eventually a gravel path that led out through farmland. The first town I came to was Tardajos (6 miles later) and I stopped at Restaurante Pececitos. I ate a ham and cheese sandwich per the usual, an expresso, and also loaded up on 1.5 liters of water. The camino then wove through farmland for a while and then I arrived at Rabe de las Calzadas soon thereafter; I visited the church there before continuing onward. (There was an usual homeless man I talked to again there (looked like Jesus) that kept showing up in front of me everywhere I went. It was uncanny). After Rabe de las Calzadas, there was another lengthy section of trail between towns before coming into Hornillos del Camino. I stopped by a Bar/Restaurant there and ordered an Aquarius electrolyte drink. I then pushed onward up into the hills again until I stopped again at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, Bar Fuentes Sidres. It was a great oasis that had a view, food and drink, and even a pool. I ordered two electrolyte drinks and refilled my water supply there. I also got a free croquette. Leaving the oasis, I came down out of the hills into Hotanas but didn’t make any stops. I then continued on and stopped at the San Anton Monastery to briefly take in the 12th century ruins. After the monastery, I came around a bend and saw Castro Jeriz, my stopping point for the night. A castle sits high on a hill overlooking the city. It was a beautiful site and capped off my marathon day. I checked into Quinta San Francisco, a wellness and spa retreat. I was the only guest there and had the entire place to myself. I did laundry for free, soaked my feet in a cold pool, and then relaxed in the room until dinner. I ate at the hotel restaurant La Bodega and they made me several dishes and a dessert special for my birthday. I then walked around town a little which brought my daily step count over 60,000 for the day (~30 miles)!
