Camino de Santiago Day 15

Day 15: I woke up around 7 AM and had a nice breakfast in the hotel’s dining room at 9 AM. Knowing that the next hotel was not nearly as nice as my current accommodation, there was no rush to leave. After breakfast I got some work done on the computer and then headed out from Castro Jeriz. Within the first half hour, there was a relatively steep climb. The camino then crossed the ridge and went straight back down the other side. After crossing a wide plain, I eventually came to the Puenta Fitero (bridge separating the province of Burgos from the province of Palencia). I crossed over the bridge and entered Palencia. Soon thereafter, I entered the town of Itero de la Vega and had an electrolyte drink and replenished my water at Hostal Fitero. After Itero de la Vega, it was a rather long hike to the next town of Boadilla del Camino. Once there, I visited the stone Pillar of Justice and the Church of Santa Maria. I stopped in at Alberque en el Camino and had a ham and cheese sandwich and another Aquarious electrolyte drink. About a mile or so after I left town, the camino hugged the Canal de Castilla (a 207 km canal built in the late 1700s). It was a nice walk before finally entering the town of Fromista. I checked into the Hostal Camino de Santiago at 4 PM and the proprietor gave me a free water and a beer (maybe because I was the only one hiking past 1 PM these days). After relaxing a bit, I explored the town and then went to dinner at El Chiringuito del Camino. It was delicious and affordable. Following dinner I went back to the hotel, relaxed, and slept.
