Camino de Santiago Day 28

Day 28: I woke up at 6:30 AM and left the hotel at 7:15 AM to walk over to a nearby bakery that Tatiana wanted me to check out. It was full, however, so I came back to the hotel to eat breakfast. I left the hotel again at 8:30 AM and began the 8 mile climb up and out of Portomarin. There were nice forests along this part of the camino but like the day before, there were hundreds of people everywhere. I eventually stopped for lunch around 11 AM in Vantas de Naron at Albergue O Cruciero and had a bacon burger and an electrolyte drink. Around 12:30 PM, I saw the first three people that I actually recognized (two Austrians and a Hungarian) in the last two days since the hordes of people joined the hike in Sarria. I went over to see them and it was a great time talking about how much the camino had changed since Sarria. We were all feeling a little overwhelmed and everyone was ready to get to Santiago as fast as possible now. After chatting a bit and replenishing my water, I then continued on with the afternoon’s 7 mile descent into Palas de Rei. I took a picture of one of the many horreo's I came across while walking past peoples' yards. Horreo's are everywhere in these Galician villages and are the traditional way to store grain. In Palas de Rei, I passed by the Igrexa de San Tirso church on the way in and then checked into my hotel, Pension Restaurant Casa Camino. It was another great room (Tatiana did an amazing job planning and booking all these places months in advance) and after taking a shower and 30 min nap, I went out to explore the city. I walked around a bit but there wasn’t too much to see in the immediate vicinity. I came back to the hotel, uploaded some videos, worked on the blog, and then went to dinner at the hotel restaurant. The dinner was great (octopus again and pasta Bolognese). After dinner I walked around the city a little more, came back to the hotel, and slept.
