Camino de Santiago Day 29

Day 29: I woke up at 5:30 AM and started hiking at 6 AM. It was a 20 mile day so I wanted to time it where I got into the destination city, Arzua, around the same time as Tatiana arrived (her flight arrived in Santiago at 12:35 PM and it would take about a half hour from there to get to Arzua). Leaving at 6 AM, I managed to avoid all the ultra-early risers (~4:30 AM) and also avoided all the late hikers 8 AM and beyond. I found the sweet spot for this section because after passing several dozen people one at a time, I then found a huge swath of open space that I remained in most of the day. The camino went up and down over hills this entire section, through many old forests and farmland. At 9 AM, I stopped for “lunch” at Pulperia a Garnache, a well-known octopus restaurant in the area. I did not eat the octopus (have eaten it the two previous days in a row), but instead had some croquettes, chorizo, and French fries. I got a good picture of the octopus being prepared though. At 9:45 AM, I started hiking again for the second half of my day. Nothing significant occurred during the second half other than walking over a few ancient bridges and noticing the autumn colors (been hiking so long the seasons are changing). I got to the hotel in Arzua at 1 PM and Tatiana arrived 45 minutes later (she had issues with her car transfer). Our hotel was amazing, the 1930 Boutique Hotel, and due to her jet lag, we both took a nap for an hour (Tatiana two hours), before getting up and exploring the hotel grounds and the city. We visited a couple places for tapas and then had dinner at the hotel and it was incredible once again! Tatiana tried the Pulpo (octopus) and we also ordered fish (Galicia is huge on seafood). After dinner we did laundry at a local laundromat and played darts at a nearby bar while the clothes dried. After that we came back and went to sleep.
